Photocopiers and laser printers both produce ozone which, if present in high enough concentrations, can cause health problems such as eye, nose and throat irritation, dermatitis, headaches, premature ageing and possible reproductive and cancer hazards. People suffering from respiratory ailments are particularly sensitive to the effects of ozone.

With the adoption of the world’s first and only "positive" contact roller charging method, Kyocera has virtually eliminated this source of ozone emissions.

On printers which have a non-contact corona charging system, when high voltage electricity is charged to the corona during the printing process, the charge chemically reacts with oxygen and ozone is formed.

The Kyocera contact charge method is essentially the same charging method but because the charge is made direct, excess ozone is eliminated.
